Four years ago Khun May decided she wanted to open her own coffee shop, she has since made name for herself as an original barista! Her coffee speaks louder than this article can, so we encourage you give it a try one of her drinks or desserts yourself, but before you do we’ll outline a little more about this special coffee spot.
Located on Uttarakit Road in downtown Krabi town overlooking the Krabi River The Art of Tea is in a great location for taking a small break while you’re visiting the famous souvenir shop PAKARANG or any of the other shops in the area. Or if you just want to grab a great shot (of double) of espresso and hit the road getting that extra jolt.
One of the things we love about The Art of Tea is the simplicity of the design. There was without a doubt a certain attention to detail in terms of the colors used throughout the shop, the chalkboard menu and the delicious snacks served alongside the many variety of coffee available all come together in perfect harmony giving The Art of Tea a wonderful authentic simple feeling that is often overlooked.
Owner operated you can always find Khun May at her shop either behind the bar or out on the floor taking an order. When the owner is willing to do the work themselves to create fantastic coffee and ambiance it is just a certain personal touch that really adds to the feeling and atmosphere of the shop.
When you visit you must try the fantastic assortment of home made desserts. Khun May makes a few different styles of cheese cakes but the most popular and ones you can expect to try on any given day are Mango cheese cake and blueberry cheese cake. Both are cut into small cubes perfectly sized for one person as they sip on hot strong coffee.
Khun May bakes her cakes daily but also makes available her cakes for special arrangements such as birthdays, parties and picnics. You only need to give her a days notice to have her bake you a special cake on time, so visit or call her to arrange this service if needed.
For the coffee styles available our favorite style is the latte macchiato, it is served in a large glass with generous amount of creamy foam on top. Served hot or iced it’s all up to your preference, just don’t order it in a hurry as it is a large glass and will take a little while to finish. We enjoyed it for it’s richness and flavor, the blend of cocoa and coffee together are always grate but Khun May adds a certain creaminess to her version that makes it a little more filling and fuller in flavor.
When you visit make sure you say hello to the friendly store parrot SinSin. A beautiful Sun Conure that sits on his perch in the back of the shop eating his sunflower seeds. Occasionally he will fly to the front of the store and say hello, so don’t be startled if this happens, he’s just saying hello.
If there is time Khun May might even pick him up and bring him to you for a more personal hello, just ask.
You might also fancy playing the stores guitar, it’s not a problem, just don’t act like your at a rolling stone concert, play cool, blend into the vibe of the shop.
The Art of Tea cannot of replicated, it is a unique coffee we strongly recommend if you are in the area.
