Taking an adventurous journey to exotic Thailand is something that many a traveller has experienced in their lifetime. In years past places in the Central and Northern regions of Thailand such as Aythaya and Chiang Mai were destinations praised for their rich culture and centuries of historical savvy. When venturing to the Southern destinations of this incredible nation you will surely hear of Phuket and Phi Phi islands. However, the new kid on the block for travelers has become the province of Krabi. Krabi is known for scuba diving, rock climbing and some of the most incredible limestone karsts. Krabi carries the reputation of, “Lovely place and lovely people”. This is all well and true. Krabi town is inland and only a short drive away from Ao Nang village, nestled along the seashore. In less than two decades both of these neighboring towns have risen in acclaim and popularity. More and more tourists are wanting to see more of unseen Thailand and not so much the hustle and bustle of some of the more popular or trendy tourists spots. But as fate may have it and in a fairly short amount of time, Krabi is now being challenged with how to maintain and service tourists that want to experience this incredible community. Growth is great and has many positive benefits that come along with it but for most tourists they are still longing to experience the heart of the nation and not necessarily its modernization.
Recently we discovered hidden within the province of Krabi a tranquil little island called Koh Jum. The spoils of modernization have yet to embark upon this jem; acting as a natural sanctuary within the Andaman Sea. A recent visit to the Koh Jum Beach Villas ensured that this would be the place to venture to if you truly want to feel the essence of Southern Thailand, an endless beach line, local culture and absolute peace and quiet. Koh Jum Beach Villas has 19 custom villas to house guests from around the globe. The topography and design of this private community was created by mandating ecological design and ambiance. Preserving the environment was priority and is very apparent as you walk, rest, swim, relax and sleep amongst a development that is eighty five percent open green space. Every structure was built to avoid tree removal and to preserve native vegetation. Although this is an absolute eco conscious managery, they are far from bamboo huts and simple mosquito nets. On the contrary they carry a five star status and equally so five star service.
On the day of your arrival you are met on the mainland by one of their very friendly staff. You will be taken on a very short walk through what could almost be described as a small “China town” and escorted to a private pier. You are then safely secured on one of their private boats to take you directly to your the villas. The boat ride is about 30-40 minutes and within this very short amount of time the sounds of nature, the mangroves and your natural surroundings will speak to you ever so gently. Inviting you to calm down and begin to breathe; I mean really breathe. Breathe in the fresh sea air nice and slowly and begin to unwind before your feet every touch the sand of this incredible tropical island. Your stay can be filled with activities such as kayaking in the mangroves, paddle boarding, snorkeling, visiting local islands, meeting the locals whilst riding a bicycle through remote villages. Or you may choose to do an activity that you’ve longed for but never seem to have the time; that is simply reading a book. The backdrop is perfect to do a lot of nothing if this is what you are in hopes of experiencing here on Koh Jum.
